Last night I had the pleasure of attending an Eagle Scout ceremony.
It was held in a church hall and dinner was served afterwards.

Scouting officials were in abundance. Testimonials were spoken and some were delivered from our governor, a senator and two congressmen.

Gabriel is 18. He's home schooled.
I've seen he and his sister (who is also active in scouting, a "Venture Scout") grow up in our church.
They were both home schooled until high school.
In high school, they took classes concurrently with the local community college.
When Gabe graduated this year, he did so with a high school degree and an associate's degree. His sister will, too.
He is now studying at University of Michigan/Dearborn.

He has management courses under his belt and he's headed to an electrical engineering degree.

Every astronaut who has walked on the moon is an Eagle Scout.

It's not an easy task to become one.
Next time you hear someone say, "he's such an eagle scout", like it's uncool, ask how uncool it would be to walk on the moon.

Good job, Gabe.

Mike Pence was quoted in the recent edition of Imprimis. You can get a free subscription to Imprimis by visiting their website and requesting it.

Mr. Pence said:
Whereas the president must be cautious, dutiful, and deferential at home, his character must change abroad. Were he to ask for a primer on how to act in relation to other states, which no holder of the office has needed to this point, and were that primer to be written by the American people, whether of 1776 or 2010, you can be confident that it would contain the following instructions:

You do not bow to kings. Outside our shores, the President of the United States of America bows to no man. When in foreign lands, you do not criticize your own country. You do not argue the case against the United States, but the case for it. You do not apologize to the enemies of the United States. Should you be confused, a country, people, or region that harbors, shelters, supports, encourages, or cheers attacks upon our country or the slaughter of our friends and families are enemies of the United States. And, to repeat, you do not apologize to them.

It appears he's been considering how a president should act. Obama should have.

Steve Graham over at Tools of Renewal posted about marriage choices, the process and parental influence.
It's lines like this that make Steve a good read:

"But I stepped outside the flow of blessings and into the domain of the enemy, and I got the kind of wages enemies pay. I accept that. Like all human beings, I was born an idiot, and idiots suffer until they recover from idiocy."

When I was very young I got involved with a woman who was very intent on marriage for her and her child. I was intent on the sex. My older sister (a mother figure to me) was frank enough to tell me (give me strength) not to.

I got saved a few years later and agonized over which of two women who were set before me was the one God intended for me. I assumed, saved= time to marry. I talked my first wife into marrying me (to overcome her reservations), and spent the years until our divorce working to keep things good, til I slacked up and she left me the job of raising our two kids.
I eventually asked God for a wife. One request: a blonde.

I started working with a slender young blonde in Sunday School who I thought might be a candidate.
Meanwhile, a plump woman who appeared to have six children and to be financially strapped (worked at McDonalds) and blonde kept popping up.
I knew my choice, but God threw Scherie and I together for a few hours while I worked on her car. Those kids were her sisters kids. She was working three jobs to pay off her debts. She loves the Lord intensely. I enjoyed talking (and listening) to her.
We married 28 days later. Going on 19 years now.
I'm thankful for her and the two children from my first marriage and the the son I gained with my second.
I'm glad God stepped in.

By the President of the United States of America.

A Proclamation.

The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God. In the midst of a civil war of unequaled magnitude and severity, which has sometimes seemed to foreign States to invite and to provoke their aggression, peace has been preserved with all nations, order has been maintained, the laws have been respected and obeyed, and harmony has prevailed everywhere except in the theatre of military conflict; while that theatre has been greatly contracted by the advancing armies and navies of the Union. Needful diversions of wealth and of strength from the fields of peaceful industry to the national defence, have not arrested the plough, the shuttle or the ship; the axe has enlarged the borders of our settlements, and the mines, as well of iron and coal as of the precious metals, have yielded even more abundantly than heretofore. Population has steadily increased, notwithstanding the waste that has been made in the camp, the siege and the battle-field; and the country, rejoicing in the consiousness of augmented strength and vigor, is permitted to expect continuance of years with large increase of freedom. No human counsel hath devised nor hath any mortal hand worked out these great things. They are the gracious gifts of the Most High God, who, while dealing with us in anger for our sins, hath nevertheless remembered mercy. It has seemed to me fit and proper that they should be solemnly, reverently and gratefully acknowledged as with one heart and one voice by the whole American People. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens. And I recommend to them that while offering up the ascriptions justly due to Him for such singular deliverances and blessings, they do also, with humble penitence for our national perverseness and disobedience, commend to His tender care all those who have become widows, orphans, mourners or sufferers in the lamentable civil strife in which we are unavoidably engaged, and fervently implore the interposition of the Almighty Hand to heal the wounds of the nation and to restore it as soon as may be consistent with the Divine purposes to the full enjoyment of peace, harmony, tranquillity and Union.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the United States to be affixed.

Done at the City of Washington, this Third day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, and of the Independence of the Unites States the Eighty-eighth.

By the President: Abraham Lincoln

William H. Seward,
Secretary of State

There have been times when I've been asked to help someone, and I say yes.
When I go over to help them get the tree offf of their roof, that's what I came over there for.
When they ask if I can help roof, I agree.
When they leave me on the roof by myself to chat on the phone with the neighbor who blows his leaves into my yard, I'm done.

When we get attacked by elements based in another country, we attack them in that country.
When other elements of that country aid us in our struggle and then ask our help to rebuild, we help.
When those elements of that country start dealing with those that abetted our attackers, It's time to go home.
No shame, no loss of honor, our dead and wounded didn't suffer in vain. We did the right thing at the right time.
Now the
right thing at the right time is just a simple:
"We'll be going now. If we see a threat from an area you should control, we will not be responsible for your safety as we contain the threat."

It's time to leave.
The clincher? If Obama is cool with staying, I really question it.
